We’re launching a UBC DAP Mentorship Program!

We’re exciting to launch a pilot UBC DAP Mentorship Program in May 2023! The purpose of the mentorship program is to match UBC DAP students with like-minded UBC DAP alumni who can share their experiences, and offer guidance and advice on how you can achieve your career goals.

If your application is selected, you’ll be matched with a UBC DAP alumni who you will connect with on a bi-weekly basis, over the course of a 4-month period. Please note, we have very limited mentor/mentee spaces available, and therefore not all applications will be selected for the initial launch of the pilot program. However, we thank you in advance for your interest!

The deadline to apply as a mentee is Sunday, April 30th at 11:59pm. Please keep a placeholder for the UBC DAP Mentorship Program online orientation for mentors and mentees on Thursday, May 4th from 12:00 – 1:00pm.

A few spaces left! RSVP to attend Russell Garrett’s virtual Career Series workshop: Creating, Building & Maintaining Relationships on Tuesday, September 27th 4:45pm – 6:15pm PST.

Job searching is a process that involves many things. Having the correct mind-set and employing the right strategies makes a huge difference a job seekers success. So many candidates become frustrated with the results they are having not realizing that it is their approach that is their greatest obstacle – not the job market or the employers themselves.

Networking and making meaningful contacts in the realm of business, with companies, Public Practice Firms and their staff are key to becoming known in a sea of candidates and increase your chances of landing employment.

Identify ways to engage individuals to learn about your targeted industry, make contact successfully, create relationships and secure employment. See how you can increase your success when you meet new network contacts proactively or meet campus recruiting reps, managers and staff during campus events, office hours, info sessions, company events and student club activities.

This workshop will be hosted online from 4:45 to 6:15 pm PST and registration will be open until 11:59 pm on Sunday, September 25th.

A 2020 View

We often use the saying that seeing things with “20-20” vision is seeing clearly in relation to things that are coming or what we are currently experiencing. So is your vision of this New Year clear? With many of you completing the program during 2020-2021, it is important that you see your future clearly, by following some common Canadian idioms like; “keep your head up”, “keep your eyes wide open”, “keep your ear to the ground” and “put your finger in the air” to be aware of what is happening around you and to react strategically to bring success to your career future! Imagining doing all these things at once physically seems awkward (try it) you are fully able to do this mentally and strategically when it comes to generating success in 2020.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:
